About Sleepy's

The History

When Louis Acker opened his first store in Brooklyn in 1931, he had a dream. He wanted to improve people’s lives night-by-night with great sleep. He started Bedding Discount Centers in urban Brooklyn and grew it into Sleepy’s some four generations later. The Sleepy’s story continued to thrive in the Northeast, eclipsing more than 1,000 stores in 2015. Louis’ vision was realized.

The Present

As Sleepy’s continued to grow, an opportunity arose. How could two companies join forces to help fulfill the Acker dream, but nationwide? That’s where Mattress Firm stepped in. By acquiring Sleepy’s and all the passion that comes with it, the backbone store of the Northeast now has a national footprint. Mattress Firm, America’s number one mattress retailer, has more than 3,000 stores across the U.S. So, the Sleepy’s vision is experienced coast to coast, night after night.

The Future

Mattress Firm will continue Louis’ vision—to improve life, one snooze at a time. The store that’s always been there for you, Sleepy’s, is now a collection of mattresses sold at the thousands of Mattress Firms nationwide. They’re perfect mattresses for someone looking for a perfect bed at the perfect price. Sure, bells and whistles are nice—but they’re not always necessary. Sleepy’s can be found at the intersection of comfort and value, and at any of your local Mattress Firms.
This is one bedtime story that isn’t even close to being done.
